Looking for a fun dessert to bring to your family/friends’ holiday party? Why not bake a Cherpumple or a Pumpple?!
A friend of mine sent me a link to an article about this cake/pie/creation & I’m honestly not sure whether or not to say “yum!” or “yuck!”…
“What is that?!” you ask? The images above are of the Cherpumple, the wild creation of the L.A.-based comedian Charles Phoenix. He blended 3 cakes with 3 pies and poof- or should I say plop– the Cherpumple was created. It sounds like a heart attack in a bite to me, but also looks like a fun challenge to make! A bakery based in Philadelphia, Flying Monkey Bakery, created their version- the Pumpple. The Cherpumple takes nearly 2 days to complete, weighs about 15 pounds & is about 1,800 per slice!
If you are feeling like you need a challenge, here’s how you make the Cherpumple:
1 8″ frozen pumpkin pie (or bake it yourself for a REAL challenge)
1 box spice cake mix
1 8″ frozen apple pie (see challenge above)
1 box yellow cake mix
1 8″ frozen cherry pie (see challenge above!)
1 box white cake mix
eggs and butter according to the cake mix
3 tall tubs of cream cheese, buttercream or your favorite frosting
3 8.5″ round cake pans
Bake pies according to instructions and allow to fully cool (at least 6 hrs). Mix cake batter according to instructions. For each layer of the cake pour about 1 1/3 cup of batter in the cake pan. Carefully place/flip over the baked pie face-up on top of the batter in the cake pan. Push down lightly to release any trapped air. Pour enough batter on top to cover the pie. Bake according to box instructions. Repeat with the other 2 layers. Allow the cake/pie to fully cool and remove from pans. Stack the cake/pies on top of each other and add the frosting all over. Add a little frosting between the layers, too, just for fun…it’s already horrible for you, so why not make it worse?!
Note: These cakes are not recommended for anyone hoping to stick to a diet & my goodness please, please, please don’t eat this by yourself!
